International

Hello all, my name is David and I am your Unison representative.

Please find a download link below an update from the recent Higher Education Conference.

I know it can sometimes feel like nothing is happening but like a duck on a pond the unions legs are busy!

On campus we are working together with the UCU to review the agreement between trades unions and employer – known as a Recognition Agreement. Both unions are also involved in a consultation regarding a Redundancy Policy.

Unison have also asked for a review of the annual leave policy to try and make a break from your pay determining how much annual leave you have.

Additionally the increase in the National Living Wage to £11.44 per from April 2024 for workers over the age of 21 will impact people on pay points 4,6,8,and 9 and further decrease the small difference between the next pay points.

HR are looking into adjusting pay in line with this change while also keeping the pay structure.

An overhaul of the pay structure was proposed as part of previous years pay negotiations.

It would be great to have another union representative here at the university so if anyone is interested please get in contact. The Branch also has vacancies for a number of roles if anyone wants to get more involved.

Also please let me know if you have any comments or questions about any of the above.

Regards

David Taylor
