About our AGM

In line with UNISON national rules every branch must hold an AGM each year before the end of March. Certain business must occur such as election of officers and workplace representative, receiving branch accounts, and agreeing priorities for the forthcoming year and a budget to support this. There are other important matters that we may also need to discuss.

Our branch comprises of two hybrid meetings each year, one at lunchtime and the other, early evening.   AGMS are hybrid, meaning if cannot come along in person you can still join in via MS Teams.

It is vital that members do come to the AGM to make us quorate. If we have too few members attend, we cannot make any formal agreements or elect any Reps. agree anything and will have to organise another general meeting.

Before the AGM

  • About 6 weeks before the AGM you will be sent initial paperwork
  • An AGM invitation with details of venues, dates and times and MS Team links.
  • A nomination form, to choose your Branch reps for the forthcoming year.
  • A draft AGM agenda - if this does not include an item you feel all members need to discuss at the AGM please tell us.
  • Nomination forms and agenda items should be returned to the Branch to an address provided within a specified deadline
  • A poster to pin on a UNISON noticeboard and share with others

About 2 weeks before the AGM

  • The Branch Committee with look at nominations and the AGM will formerly elect and discuss any motions to see if they should be included in the final AGM agenda.
  • You will receive a reminder about the meeting and any roles which are vacant after the deadline
  • Should you foresee difficulties in attending an AGM and would like some assistance please contact us and we will try to help you.

At the AGM

  • A final agenda, branch activity report, its priorities for the next year with supporting budget and end of year accounts will be available at the meeting – you can ask questions about these.
  • Members will be invited to volunteer for any branch roles that are vacant after AGM elections. These will go to the next Branch Committee meeting for election.
  • If you need to pay travel costs or caring responsibilities to attend your branch AGM, please ask for a claim form at the meeting.
  • You will be thanked for attending

After the AGM

  • The AGM notes will be typed up, accounts submitted to National and branch reps undergo training and receive support to commence fulfilling their roles. That is helping their colleagues and making our branch stronger
  • Any roles remaining vacant after the AGM can be filled throughout the year by the Branch Cttee – so you can still get involved.
  • If you wish to branch reps to visit your workplace to talk to workers in your area we can arrange a convenient time.
  • If you would like the Branch to consider attending any events eg) learning day, well-being event, new starters induction, etc please contact us
  • All Branch Reps can attend our Branch Committee meetings and contribute to making joint decisions.
  • We will respond to you concerns and include you in consultations.
